TÜRKONFED Announces Two Important Commitments in Gender Equality!

Determining the development of gender equality as one of its focal points, TÜRKONFED announced that on the occasion of March 8, it has made a commitment in the name of all associations and federations within its structure to change the phrase "businessmen" to "business people". TÜRKONFED, until the end of 2023, the 100th anniversary of our Republic, also declared its will to increase the female representation in the executive boards of federations and associations to a minimum of 30 percent.

Orhan Turan, President of TÜRKONFED, said, "With these commitments, we will continue our efforts to take a very important step towards gender equality in the Turkish business world." Reyhan Aktar and Hasan Küçükkurt, co-chairs of the TÜRKONFED Women in Business (İDK) Commission, started a social awareness campaign in order to remove sexist expressions from our language, as IDK considers the change starts in the language.

March 4, 2020 / Istanbul - Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TÜRKONFED) announced its gender equality commitments that will be implemented until 2023 on March 8, International Working Women's Day, with a focus on improving gender equality. Accordingly, TÜRKONFED will change the phrase "businessmen" to "business people-business world" in the name of all federations and associations within its structure until the end of 2023, the 100th anniversary of our Republic. TÜRKONFED will also take actions to increase the female representation in the boards of directors of all federations and associations to a minimum of 30 percent until the end of 2023.

Considering its independent and voluntary structure, Turkey’s largest non-governmental organization TÜRKONFED brings 26 regional and 4 sectoral federations, approximately 40 thousand companies out of 265 associations together under its roof.

TÜRKNOFED Women in Business (IDK) Commission also celebrates 8 March Working Women's Day with the social awareness campaign launched with the slogan "Start the Change in Language!".
